§ 28-33. General water quality protection measures.

  • (a)

    All visitors, residents, business owners, developers, and others who utilize the resources within the planning area shall take all reasonable measures to protect surface waters from damage resulting from their activities. The appendix to the ordinance from which this section is derived provides numerous recommendations that will help protect the sensitive environment of the planning area.

    (b)

    All owners of on-site septic are strongly recommended to have their system pumped, maintained and inspected on a regular basis in reasonable accordance with the septic tank inspection and pumping frequency chart set forth within the appendix to the ordinance from which this section is derived to prevent contaminated wastewater from discharging to surface waters and groundwaters in the planning area.

    (c)

    Property owners that voluntarily bring their conventional on-site septic into compliance with the management and maintenance recommendations set forth in this chapter within a two-year period and are not discharging effluent to the septic system beyond its permitted capacity, shall be eligible thereafter for an annual environmental compliance credit up to 60 percent of the monthly service charge set by the town for septic system management.
